Texas Instruments has introduced two new video switches for digital video interface (DVI) or high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) systems

The new offering includes the industry's only switch that allows designers to switch as many as three ports to a single display terminal, as well as a first-to-market single-chip, five-channel solution for two-to-one video switching applications. Both switches save board space and overall system cost in digital televisions, audio/video receivers, and keyboard, video and mouse switches.

Providing signal conditioning and switching, the TMDS341 is a three-port device that supports four transition minimised differential signalling (TMDS) channels, one hot plug detector and an I2C interface on each port.

Each TMDS channel allows signalling rates up to 1.65Gbit/s.

The TMDS341 provides fixed, 8dB input equalisation and selectable, 3dB output de-emphasis to optimise system performance through 5m or longer DVI-compliant cables.

The TS3DV520 is a five-channel differential, 2:1 multiplexer/demultiplexer digital video switch.

This device converts one DVI or HDMI input port into two high-speed ports.

A wide bandwidth of 2.4Gbit/s allows each channel to pass 1.65Gbit/s TMDS signals common to the DVI/HDMI application.

The TS3DV520 can be controlled by one select input, which allows the user to easily integrate this device into video applications where signals need to be switched or rerouted between two sources and one receiver.

The TMDS341 is available today from TI and authorised distributors in an 80-pin thin quad flat package (TQFP) priced at $3.50 in 1000-unit quantities.

The TS3DV520 is sampling in a 56-pin quad flat, no-lead package (QFN) priced at $2.30 each in 1000 unit quantities.
