The Wi-Fi market, which has grown tremendously over the past few years, will continue to flourish in Asia and the other regions of the world, especially in the consumer electronics segment.
Dr Lin noted that to address this market, companies must offer a broad portfolio of solutions including DSL, WLAN, voice, mobile wireless and consumer electronics, along with the ability to integrate at the system, board and chip levels.
In addition, in order for WLAN to become a utility, these solutions must successfully address industry challenges like security, ease of use/installation, interoperability and system stability.
'Innovation in communications and entertainment applications will drive the market for the next decade', Dr Lin concluded.
'As broadband and consumer electronics converge, TI is well positioned to help our customers succeed through our comprehensive silicon, software, and systems portfolios which they can use to create integrated, innovative products quickly'.
Dr Lin is responsible for developing business initiatives and cultivating strategic relationships with key customers in Asia.
He joined TI in 1979 as a research and development manager for the former TI Speech business unit of TI Consumer Products Group.
In this role he worked with teams to develop consumer products, including TI's famous Speak and Spell educational learning tool.
Since his first position at TI, Dr Lin has held several managerial positions with increasing responsibility in TI's Application Specific Products, including DSP and broadband products, in TI's Semiconductor Group.
