Power modules provide
precisely regulated output
Three new wide-input, nonisolated plug-in power modules aim to simplify distributed power system design
Building on the success of its popular PT78 nonisolated plug-in power modules, Texas Instruments has released three new wide-input, nonisolated modules that simplify power system design. 50% smaller than their predecessors, the flexible PTN78000, PTN78060 and PTN78020 series of 1.5, 3 and 5A devices can be used in a wide variety of applications that require input voltages from 7 to 36V, including industrial, test and measurement instruments, distributed power, workstations and medical equipment.

The third-generation '78 series' high-performance modules are lead (Pb)-free and RoHS compliant, and provide a precisely regulated output voltage, which is adjustable via an external resistor from 2.5 to 12.6V.
Providing excellent line and load regulation, the modules deliver a full load power conversion efficiency of 85% with a 5V output.
PTN78000 integrated power modules are available in volume today from TI and its authorised distributors.
Double-sided, open-frame construction and a small footprint make the modules suitable for high density designs.
The PTN78000 comes in a small, 18.9 x 12.5 x 8.5mm module, the PTN78060 in a 25.2 x 15.7 x 9mm module and the PTN78020 in a 37.9 x 22.1 x 9mm module.
Suggested pricing in quantities of 1000 units each is $8 for the PTN78000, $11 for the PTN78060 and $15 for the PTN78020.
All devices are available in through-hole or SMD pin configurations.
SMD devices are available on tape and reel.
