A new transimpedance amplifier from the Burr-Brown product line features 90MHz gain bandwidth, less than 25uV offset and inherent temperature and long-term stability

The device is ideal for a broad range of high-speed photodiode applications, including optical power monitoring, security scanners, medical diagnostics and current measurement in test equipment. 'The OPA380 features a unique combination of speed and precision, making it the leading-edge solution for transimpedance applications.

The offset, drift and noise performance of this device far exceeds conventional JFET op amps and with offset calibrated every 100us, the OPA380 provides unrivalled long-term stability by design', said Frank Haupt, Strategic Marketing Engineer of TI's high-performance amplifier products.

The 90MHz gain bandwidth of the OPA380 enables a transimpedance bandwidth of more than 1MHz in most configurations.

As a result of the 25uV maximum offset voltage and 0.1uV/C offset drift, a dynamic range of five decades can be achieved, which allows the measurement of signal currents from, for example, 10nA to 1mA.

In contrast to logarithmic amplifiers, the OPA380 provides very wide bandwidth throughout the full dynamic range.

Other features include 50pA bias current, 6.5mA quiescent current and a 2.7 to 5.5V supply range.

The OPA380 is packaged in an MSOP-8 or SO-8, and is available now from TI and its authorised distributors.

The device is priced from $1.95 in 1000-piece quantities (suggested resale pricing).

The OPA2380 (dual version) will be available in Q2 2004.
