The Editors of Electronic Products magazine have chosen the TMS320DRI250 single-chip HD Radio baseband as a winner of the magazine's 28th annual product of the year award

The selection is based on significant advances in technology or its application, innovative design, or a substantial achievement in price/performance. Prototype products and modules that use the DRI250 will be on display in the TI booth (#9011) at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, from 8th to 11th January 2004.

For nearly 30 years, Electronic Products has held an annual contest to review the products introduced each year to select and honour the most outstanding.

The editorial board at the magazine considers thousands of impressive product introductions announced during the year.

The DRI250 was chosen because it is the industry's first single-chip baseband to integrate all of the digital functions required to build a combined analogue AM/FM and HD Radio receiver.

'We chose TI's DRI250 because it is paving the way for an entirely new market in terrestrial digital radio', said Christina Nickolas, Editor at Electronic Products.

'This is a crucial time for the digital radio industry, and the highly integrated DRI250 provides the integration and performance to trigger growth in this new market'.

The Electronic Products' Editors found that the DRI250 provides manufacturers unmatched performance and integration, including the addition of audio processing and MP3 and Windows Media Audio (WMA) CD support on the baseband for the first time.

The new baseband brings together TI's programmable DSP expertise and iBiquity's patented HD Radio technology.

Kiryung and TBK are currently designing HD Radio receivers and modules based on the DRI250 that are expected to be available in 2004.

'We are honoured that Electronic Products has chosen TI for its product of the year', said Naresh Coppisetti, Digital Radio Business Manager at TI.

'The innovative DRI250 is the most integrated baseband in the industry, which results in the lowest cost HD Radio solution in production.

As a software radio provider, TI offers manufacturers the flexibility and processing headroom to differentiate their products by supporting new standards, features and modifications'.
