DSL equipment interoperability
The InterOps Test Labs DSL interoperability programme aims to help customers of TI's DSL Business Unit as part of the company's overall interoperability strategy for all its broadband products
Interoperability between ADSL infrastructure and customer premises equipment (CPE) is a fundamental requirement that is growing in importance for operators worldwide as existing networks get older and subscriber numbers increase. To address this market requirement, Texas Instruments has set up the InterOps Test Labs DSL interoperability programme for customers of TI's DSL Business Unit as part of the company's overall interoperability strategy for all of its broadband products.

TI has invested millions of dollars in this programme in equipment and manpower to enable its customers to get to market faster and more cost-effectively with leading-edge DSL products.
'There are thousands of combinations of CPE and CO products and varying operator requirements around the world which have made interoperability a necessary burden of the DSL industry', said Sam Lucero, research analyst at In-Stat-MDR.
'By offering dedicated labs and test teams for interoperability to its customers and operators, TI is simplifying the interoperability testing process and increasing manufacturer, operator and their own time to revenue'.
TI has been offering interoperability testing to customers since it entered the market with its first product in 1998.
Since then, DSL networks have increased in size and a wider variety of modems and central office equipment have been deployed, increasing the importance of interoperability.

As operators upgrade and replace their infrastructure equipment, interoperability ensures that new linecards will seamlessly work with the DSL modems already being used by subscribers.
Without solid interoperability of the new linecards, consumers may experience decreased performance which in-turn could increase service calls and impact customer satisfaction.
The same is true as operators upgrade consumers to WLAN-enabled DSL modems - they must perform the same or better with the existing DSL infrastructure equipment than the subscribers' previous modem.
The TI InterOps Test Labs DSL programme has facilities in San Jose, California and Dallas, Texas and includes testing against more than 30 leading infrastructure linecards and over 250 unique DSL modems and routers with multiple code loads for each.
The interoperability lab includes automated testing of many operator-specific network requirements in addition to industry testing against standards such as TR-048.
This enables TI customers to receive operator-specific reports on how TI's DSL CO and CPE solutions perform within these operator requirements to provide information for operator tenders.
'Interoperability has been a focus of TI's for the past 10 years.
We have seen the increased importance placed on interoperability and began this program to help our customers meet the varying requirements of operators worldwide', said Ben Wagner, Director, Worldwide Marketing and Business Development of TI's DSL Business Unit.
'The InterOps Test Labs programme allows our OEM customers to speed their time to revenue of their TI-based products by reducing their operator qualification time'.
