Webcast to address wireless power optimisation
Texas Instruments and Avnet Electronics Marketing will present a live Analog eLab webcast on 'Optimising power in low-power wireless systems' on 12th April 2006
'When talking with instrumentation designers, we identified the need for a convertor that offers high conversion rates while preserving the effective resolution of low-speed designs in order to enhance overall system performance.
Designed to meet this demand, the ADS1255 and ADS1256 offer an unmatched combination of noise performance, speed and features which allows users to reach new levels of measurement accuracy with extended bandwidth', said Rich Wegner, Strategic Marketing Manager for TI's oversampling data convertor products.
Wegner added: 'The flexibility and high conversion rate also allows customers to reconfigure an ADS1256 design to meet the speed/resolution requirements of multiple applications with a simple change in programming'.

The ADS1255 and ADS1256 offer noise-free resolution up to 23bit, data rates up to 30Ksample/s, +/-0.0010% nonlinearity (maximum) and a host of onboard peripherals (input multiplexer, input buffer, programmable gain amplifier).
Each convertor are comprises a 4th-order delta-sigma modulator followed by a programmable digital filter.
The flexible input multiplexer handles differential or single-ended signals and includes circuitry to verify the integrity of the external sensor connected to the inputs.
The input also includes a chopper-stabilised buffer providing very high input impedance and a low-noise programmable gain amplifier (PGA) with gains of 1 to 64.
The programmable filter allows the user to optimise between resolution and data rate.
When measuring multiplexed inputs, these devices cycle quickly between channels without data loss.
One-shot conversions can be performed to achieve power savings with a low-power standby mode.
The ADS1255 supports one differential or two single-ended inputs and has two general-purpose digital I/Os.
The ADS1256 supports four differential or eight single-ended inputs and has four general-purpose digital I/Os.
Communication is handled over an SPI-compatible serial interface.
The ADS1255 is packaged in an SSOP-20 and is priced from $7.95 in 1000-piece quantities.
The ADS1256 comes in an SSOP-28 and is priced from $8.95 in 1000-piece quantities.
All pricing is suggested resale.
