Support gathers for DSLHome initiative
Texas Instruments will offer its technical and market experience in DSL and home networking technologies to support the DSLHome initiative launched last week by the DSL Forum
DSLHome will offer technical specifications and marketing support to innovate and promote DSL-based home networking that will provide fast, secure Internet access to the home and distribute multimedia content and applications throughout the entire home. The DSLHome initiative complements TI's broadband home gateway strategy that allows manufacturers to quickly add TI's 802.11 wireless networking and voice to its DSL solutions including the recently announced AR7 single-chip DSL router for fast time to market of integrated gateways.

'Broadband home networking is a major driver for accelerating DSL growth worldwide offering opportunities for the entire DSL value chain from silicon providers to operators.
Having a unified industry effort behind this important initiative will provide consumers with solutions to meet their current and future home multimedia and computing needs', said Ben Wagner, Director of Worldwide Marketing and Business Development for TI's DSL Business Unit.
With a complete suite of broadband system solutions, TI enables manufacturers to easily integrate features such as 802.11 wireless networking and voice over IP and quickly deliver that new DSL-based product to market.
For example, an OEM could integrate the AR7 single-chip DSL router and TI's TNETW1130 802.11a/b/g solution to create an 802.11g-enabled DSL home gateway with enough throughput to support video and gaming applications.
To make the design process easier, TI offers complete system reference designs including software, engineering support and comprehensive interoperability testing.
'Service providers and equipment manufacturers alike recognize the incredible potential of broadband DSL fueled home networking, and as an industry, we are converging on new standards, specifications and provider best practices that are setting the stage for home networking excellence', said Tom Starr, Chairperson and President of the DSL Forum (http://www.dslforum.org).
'With 41 million users of broadband DSL globally as of first quarter, the pace of DSL adoption is accelerating and DSL Forum is focused on tailoring DSL to empower networked homes around the world.
We welcome Texas Instruments' input, and congratulate them for stepping forward to support this initiative that will help shape the future of our industry'.
