Transceivers protect against
noise and faults
Texas Instruments has developed the world's first extended common-mode RS485 transceivers, providing the industry's greatest protection against noise and fault conditions
More than doubling the TIA/EIA-485 requirements, the SN65HVD2X family of devices is ideal for industrial environments requiring long cable applications such as factory automation, security networks and building HVAC systems. These devices can also be used in electrical power inverters, industrial drives and avionics, where electrical environments are severe.

This family of devices is ideally suited for long-cable networks and other applications where the environment is too harsh for ordinary transceivers.
These devices are designed for bidirectional data transmission on multipoint twisted-pair cables for applications, such as digital motor controllers, remote sensors and terminals, industrial process control, security stations and environmental control systems.
SN65HVD23 and SN65HVD24 will provide receiver equalisation technology, another first from Texas Instruments, for improved jitter performance on differential bus applications with datarates up to 25 and 3Mbit/s at cable lengths up to 160 and 500m, respectively.

The SN65HVD20 provides up to 25Mbit/s of signalling rate for interconnecting networks of up to 64 nodes.
The SN65HVD21 and SN65HVD22 features driver slew rate control up to 5Mbit/s and 500Kbit/s, respectively, and both devices allow up to 256 connected nodes.
The transceivers in the HVD2x family offer performance far exceeding typical RS485 devices.
In addition to meeting all requirements of the TIA/EIA-485-A standard, the HVD2x family operates over an extended range of common-mode voltage, and has features such as high ESD protection, wide receiver hysteresis and true failsafe operation.
Other features include: a common-mode voltage range from -20 to +25V (more than double the TIA/EIA-485 requirement; bus I/O protection to over 16kV (human body model); failsafe receiver for open-circuit, short-circuit and idle-bus conditions; low standby supply current of less than 1uA; and more than 100mV receiver hysteresis.
The SN65HVD20, SN65HVD21 and SN65HVD22 are available now from TI and its authorised distributors in 8-pin packaging at $1.93 in quantities of 1000.
The SN65HVD23 is sampling now, with production of SN65HVD23 and SN65HVD24 planned for June 2003.
Planned pricing for these two devices is $2.32 in quantities of 1000.
