Current shunt modulator
aids motor control
Extending its portfolio of high-performance motor control convertors, Texas Instruments has released a current shunt, delta-sigma modulator featuring 16bit resolution and 80dB dynamic range
The ADS1202 provides precision current measurements for motor control applications, as well as industrial process control, instrumentation, smart transmitters, portable instruments and weigh scales. 'The ADS1202 features high accuracy, high resolution and low noise to meet designers' requirements for precision current measuring and digitising - which improves system-level performance', said Miroslav Oljaca, Strategic Marketing Manager for TI's motor control convertor products.

The differential inputs of the ADS1202 are ideal for direct connections to current shunt resistors, transducers or low-level signals.
With the appropriate digital filter and modulator rate, the device can be used to achieve 16bit analogue/digital conversion with no missing codes.
The ADS1202 offers a +/-250mV input range with a single +5V supply.
Other features include 2% gain error; 1mV offset voltage, +/-3LSB linearity (at 16bit resolution) and a flexible serial interface with four different modes.
The ADS1202 comes in a TSSOP-8 package, and is available now from TI and its authorised distributors.
Suggested resale pricing is $2.95 in 1000 piece quantities.
