High SNR for speedy dual convertors
A new pair of dual 10bit 40Msample/s ADCs features the highest SNR of comparable data convertors for baseband communications, video processing, medical imaging and portable instrumentation
Texas Instruments has a new pair of dual 10bit, 40Msample/s A/D convertors featuring 60dB signal/noise ratio (SNR) - the highest SNR of comparable data convertors for baseband communications, video processing, medical imaging and portable instrumentation. SNR represents the most important figure of merit in numerous imaging applications.

Webcast to address wireless power optimisation
Texas Instruments and Avnet Electronics Marketing will present a live Analog eLab webcast on 'Optimising power in low-power wireless systems' on 12th April 2006
The 60dB SNR of TI's low-power convertors will allow ultrasound systems to scan deeper, and optical systems to realise better colour gradation.
'The ADS5203 and ADS5204 successfully meet customers' speed, performance and power requirements, and when combined with our high-speed driver op amps, allow TI to offer a complete solution for baseband, video and imaging applications', said Ed Fullman, marketing manager for TI's high-speed data convertor products.
The ADS5203 and ADS5204 feature +3.3V single-supply operation, low power consumption (240 and 275mW, respectively) and 73dB spurious-free dynamic range.
The ADS5204 also features a 0 to 18dB programmable gain amplifier (PGA) with a serial control interface.
The onboard PGA allows the user to adjust the gain of each set of inputs in order to match the amplitude of the incoming signal.
Both devices provide customers with several design options such as single or dual parallel output bus, single-ended or differential analog inputs, internal or external reference and a power down mode.
Depending on the application requirements, the ADS5203 or ADS5204 are suitable for pairing with many of TI's high-speed op amps, such as the THS4141 (+5V), THS4502 (+5V), OPA2691 (+5V), OPA2684 (+5V), OPA2634 (+3V) or THS4121 (+3V).
The ADS5203 and ADS5204 are also designed to work with TI's high-performance TMS320C6000 DSP platform, which is used in applications ranging from high-resolution medical imaging to third-generation wireless communications infrastructure.
The ADS5203 and ADS5204 come in TQFP-48 packages, and are available now from TI and its authorised distributors.
Suggested resale price in 1000-piece quantities is $9.19 for the ADS5203 and $10.49 for the ADS5204.
