Smallest claim for delta-sigma ADC
According to Texas Instruments, the ADS1100 is the industry's smallest (SOT23-6) 16bit delta-sigma analogue-to-digital convertor
Featuring low power consumption of 250uW, this easy-to-use ADC is ideal for applications where precision, space and power consumption are critical, such as portable instrumentation, industrial process control, smart transmitters, factory automation and temperature measurement. The ADS1100 is a continuously self-calibrating ADC offering differential inputs and 16bit resolution with no missing codes.

Webcast to address wireless power optimisation
Texas Instruments and Avnet Electronics Marketing will present a live Analog eLab webcast on 'Optimising power in low-power wireless systems' on 12th April 2006
The ADS1100 uses an I2C interface and operates from a single 2.7 to 5.5V power supply.
"By combining small packaging, low power and simple operation, the ADS1100 establishes a new class of cost-effective ADCs that will enable a broad variety of high-performance, space-sensitive data acquisition applications", said Frank Den Breejen, strategic marketing manager for TI's data acquisition products.
The ADS1100 can perform conversions at rates of 8, 16, 32 or 128sample/s with respective resolution of 16, 15, 14 and 12bit.
The on-chip programmable gain amplifier (gains up to 8) allows smaller signals to be measured directly.
In single-conversion mode, the device automatically powers down after a conversion, greatly reducing current consumption to less than 0.15uW during idle periods.
The ADS1100 comes in an SOT23-6 package, and is available now from TI and its authorised distributors.
Suggested resale pricing is $1.75 in 1000-piece quantities.
