Signal sources set new standards
The DTG5000 Series of signal source equipment is receiving rapid adoption in the semiconductor, computing and video industries
Designed in response to ever-higher clock rates and tighter timing margins, the DTG5000 Series combines the power of a data generator with the capabilities of a pulse generator in a versatile, benchtop form factor. The new series of signal source equipment shortens the duration of complex test procedures and simplifies the generation of low-jitter, high-accuracy clock signals or serial data across multiple channels.

The DTG5000 Series is used in a variety of applications, including: semiconductor device functional test and characterisation; compliance and interoperability testing; emerging standards such as PCI-Express, Infiband, RapidIO, DVI, and High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI); magnetic and optical storage design; jitter transfer and jitter tolerance testing.
The DTG5000 Series is already becoming broadly accepted within industry circles, as evidenced by its recommendation in the HDMI version 1.0 Compliance Test Specification.
"Digital designers are facing higher clock rates and tighter timing margins than ever before", said Craig Overhage, Vice President, Instruments Business, Tektronix.
"Engineers need tools to ensure that their products will be compatible and will operate at peak performance under less-than-ideal conditions.
The DTG5000 Series of high performance data generators solves that problem by providing a full complement of highly accurate data signals and the ability to precisely control their parameters for automated testing of products over a wide range of operating conditions".
The DTG5000 Series consists of two mainframes - the DTG5078 and DTG5274 - and three plug-in output modules that combine to cover a range of applications from legacy devices to the latest technologies.
In addition, eight low-current, independently controlled DC outputs can substitute for external power supplies.
Each mainframe incorporates a full complement of auxiliary input and output channels to easily integrate with other instruments, such as oscilloscopes and logic analysers, to create a flexible and powerful laboratory setup.
