Rasteriser simplifies TV waveform measurements
Tektronix has developed a simple-to-use, feature-rich video and audio confidence monitoring system for television and video professionals
With rack and desk space at an increasing premium in broadcast and production facilities, many video professionals require test and measurement systems that provide robust information to the user within a physically small chassis and with flexible display capabilities. The new Tektronix WVR600 Series rasteriser is a flexible, one-rack-unit video and audio confidence monitor with high-resolution (1024 x 786) output to external displays that enables users to maximise space within their facility, while maintaining proven Tektronix-quality measurements.

The WVR600 Series also responds to industry requirements for an instrument that monitors both analogue and digital video signals in an advanced, easy-to-use, all-digital architecture.
This is accomplished by incorporating several innovative configurations including two standard definition SDI inputs and two composite inputs as well as options for analogue audio, digital AES/EBU audio (including embedded), or both.
The WVR600 also incorporates Tektronix' new FlexVu display multiscreen viewing feature, enabling users to view four waveforms simultaneously.

The WVR600 Series, with a user-configurable, flexible, high-resolution display, establishes a new benchmark for value in confidence and artistic monitoring applications within analogue, digital, and hybrid facilities.
The WVR600 Series offers users full support for traditional waveform display, both overlay and parade; vector display, both traditional and lightning; gamut monitoring including arrowhead, diamond, and split diamond; support for embedded audio, both level and phase relationship; and gain, sweep, and magnification controls.
Additionally, the power of the WVR600 Series is accessed via a user-interface that is both easy to learn and easy to use, with most menus available with a single button push, on-screen help and FlexVu.
With FlexVu, any operator can easily use the instrument to simultaneously view any four of the WVR600 Series displays and the signal under measurement.
Compared with dated analogue architectures, the fully digital processing of the WVR600 Series ensures accuracy, stability, repeatability, and ease of use, as well as a lower cost of ownership with limited need for calibration.
The combination of Tektronix exclusive gamut displays, session screens, configurable alarms, browser interface, and error logging provides quick and easy verification of legal and valid signals.
A powerful display capability introduced with the WVR600 Series, the Tektronix FlexVu display allows the user to select four views of the incoming signal and select the quadrant each view is displayed.
From a virtually unlimited variety of video and audio displays, users can choose four that best suit their specific application and simplify their monitoring needs.
The FlexVu display enables the WVR600 Series rasteriser to perform like four waveform monitors in one, on a single incoming video and/or audio signal.
A rasteriser is a version of waveform monitor in which the display is scanned in a raster mode like a video or computer display.
This is different from many traditional waveform monitors where displays are drawn from point-to-point in a vector mode.
Rasterisers have the advantage of supporting colour, and are able to drive a variety of external displays.
Some rasterisers have standard video rate outputs to allow routing around a facility, while others use higher resolution computer displays (VGA/SVGA/XGA).
