Tektronix has announced the next-generation picture quality analysis system for broadcasters and video providers who need to ensure picture quality by analysing out-of-service video content

Tektronix has announced the next-generation picture quality analysis system for broadcasters and other video content providers who need to ensure picture quality by analysing out-of-service video content. Customers will use the new tool to maintain the quality of service of compressed digital video information.

Based on the Emmy award-winning PQA200, the new Tektronix PQA300 picture quality analyser is a single channel analysis system that provides complete, in-depth picture quality analysis.

The product provides frame-by-frame results which are shown through multiple charts, displays, and difference maps for identification, tabulation, analysis, and archive of results.

The PQA300 is a cost-effective solution for customers who currently deal with subjective testing of video content.

It comes in a compact platform for desktop and rack applications and is available with a new optional integrated touch-screen display.

"Tektronix realises that video content providers need objective, repeatable picture quality test measurements to help maintain and improve their broadcast quality and ultimately protect their business revenue", said Bob Agnes, vice president, Video Business Unit, Tektronix.

"Our leadership in picture quality allows us to create innovative products that provide real solutions to real problems for the digital transition.

The new PQA300 will enable those in video broadcast content verification to quickly, automatically, and objectively measure the quality of video images".

The PQA300 is based on the human vision model algorithm.

Its out-of-service, full reference video content picture quality analysis includes both reference video generation and test video capture.

It provides a complete picture quality analysis system that detects typical encoder-imposed impairments with an output of objective, repeatable results.

PQA300 measurements can be used for video quality benchmarking prior to the video being broadcast on a network.

The PQA300 delivers practical, repeatable results quickly and independently of the types of impairment present, the compression system used, or the video material itself.

Its full reference video analysis capability makes it ideal for video content verification for broadcast and R and D applications.
