Lionel J Garin has joined Nemerix as Chief Technology Officer

With more than 20 years of GPS-related experience, Garin joins Nemerix from SiRF Technology, where he held the position of Director of Systems Architecture and Technology. As Chief Technology Officer for Nemerix, Garin will lead the company's development initiatives to advance Nemerix's GPS, AGPS and other location technologies for mobile devices and consumer applications.

Since 1998, Garin has focused on assisted-GPS capabilities and indoor high-sensitivity applications.

He has been heavily involved in GPS initiatives for the mobile phone market, where he holds several fundamental patents on the topic.

Garin has contributed to several location based services standards for GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, most notably, to the CDMA IS801/IS801A.

Garin is also heavily involved in the Galileo Programme, where he is applying the experience obtained in GPS/Glonass hybrid GNSS technologies, to this new field of research.

'I'm joining Nemerix because the company's product performance, power leadership and product roadmap align well with the needs of the mobile phone market and consumer products'.

'I truly believe that Nemerix will emerge as the dominant GPS provider for this enormous market, which is only in its early stages of growth', said Garin.

'Lionel brings unprecedented technical expertise to Nemerix, and I'm looking forward to working with him to take Nemerix's location solutions, including GPS and AGPS capabilities to the next level', said Nemerix's CEO, Ron Torten.

Prior to SiRF Technology, Garin worked at Ashtech/Magellan (now Thales Navigation), at Sagem on inertial navigation systems, and at Electronique Serge Dassault (now part of Thales Navigation) on antiradiation missile and airborne radar defence applications.

Garin holds an MSEE equivalent degree in digital communications, system control and estimation theory, from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunications (ENST) in Paris, France, and he has a BS in fundamental physics from Pierre and Marie Curie University, Paris France.
