This Eur 50,000 deal consisted of several Fase II fusion-splicing kits, along with test equipment to test the sensitivity of optical transmitters and receivers. The NATO CIS School, based in Italy, provides formal training to qualify civilian and military NATO personnel to operate and maintain NATO's communications and information systems.
The school prides itself on the quality of its training.
The training is very intense, as each course covers both single-mode and multimode optical fibre installation and testing over a two-week period.
As a maximum of six delegates attend each course, the tutors are able to devote a significant amount of time to the trainees.
This emphasis is most evident during the practical element of the course, when tutors are able to carefully observe each student during the splicing procedure.
The low price tag was not the only key factor behind the school's decision to purchase the Fase II splicers, as Jonathan Hunt, International Sales and Marketing Manager of Tritec, explained: "The contract is beneficial to NCISS as the Fase II completes a full range of fusion splicers, as previously only more expensive and sophisticated machines were used on the courses".
"It was also equally important that Tritec could now be represented alongside the competition, showing the Fase II as a capable fusion splicer in both lab and field conditions".
