Tao Group has announced that its Intent platform is now available and shipping with a JTWI (JSR185) version. Intent is consistently benchmarked as delivering the mobile industry's highest performance native and Java portable content engine on like-for-like devices. Francis Charig, Chairman of Tao stated: 'While we are pleased to see that Tao has continued to outperform competing Java engines on the industry independent benchmarks, our focus has consistently been on delivering significantly superior performance on real-world gaming and music content'.

'We continue to be highly successful in achieving our objectives that is important as these provide fundamental commercial benefits to mobile operators, device manufacturers and the publishers'.

'As devices are getting more advanced so the software overhead required increases substantially in order to drive larger screen sizes, 3D hardware acceleration and the like, so the benefits and differentiation of Intent over and above any alternative gets greater and greater'.

Intent has been developed as a hardware and operating system independent platform for the provision of advanced multimedia.

More than 500 man years of development based on patented processes developed by some of the world's leading video games engineers, has resulted in a level of multimedia integration that is missing from all other Java solution providers.

Doug Goodwin, Business Development Director and one of the original Sony team behind the PlayStation launch said: 'Multimedia integration deliver effective services is one of the biggest challenges facing device manufacturers today'.

'The fact that Intent comes as a fully integrated and robust solution with JSRs 184, 185 and the like means that our licensees are able to offer faster time to market, lower cost and significantly better performing handsets'.
