Leading-edge companies worldwide are signing up for UK Trade and Investment's new TechnologyWorld05 event in May, according to Robert Driver, International Trade Director for the East of England.
Inspired by the successful Global Technology expo in March this year, to which over GBP 16 million worth of new business can be attributed, the event is centred around pre-arranged meetings between prospective international partners in the key technology sectors, healthcare, security and the environment.
In addition there will be a full seminar programme and exhibition.
Speaking at the launch this week, Driver said: 'Follow-up research from the expo in March has revealed that international partners estimate a total of over GBP 11.5 million to have been generated, of which almost GBP 100,000 has already been placed'.
'The exhibitors have estimated their return at over GBP 1.2 million while visitors have estimated a total of GBP 3.4 million to have been generated by the expo'.
'In response to this highly encouraging first event, TechnologyWorld05 has been designed to enable even more UK-based and overseas technology companies to participate'.
'I know there are already many who are eager to take up his opportunity and would encourage all those involved in these sectors to register on the event website'.
The event will be held at the Welcome Genome Campus, Hinxton Hall, Cambridge on 17th May 2005, and will be open to national, rather than just regional, UK businesses who can ask to be matched to their global counterparts.
A message of support was also provided by Douglas Alexander, Minister of State for Trade, Investment and Foreign Affairs, who said: 'I am delighted to support TechnologyWorld05 and reaffirm the UK Government's commitment to making the UK the best location in the world for both research and development'.
'This showcase demonstrates the dynamism of the UK's technology industry and builds on the many notable successes that followed the first event in March 2004'.
'I am confident that many more success stories will result from this now national event'.
