Steven Calkins has joined Silverback Systems as Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Bringing to Silverback more than 25 years of sales and marketing experience, Calkins will manage Silverback's global sales organisation, including direct and channel sales, as the company goes to market with both silicon and host bus adapters (HBAs) based on its patented iSnap Ethernet-acceleration technology. Calkins, who will report directly to President and Chief Executive Officer Ahmet Houssein, joins Silverback at a significant time, as the company is now bringing to market its iSnap chips and adapters.
'Steve played a crucial role in developing reseller and OEM channels at two powerhouse companies in the storage and systems markets - experience that is an ideal match for the direction in which Silverback is now heading', said Houssein.
'As we move forward with bringing out our iSnap products, his background will help manufacturers and resellers successfully integrate this revolutionary acceleration architecture into their products'.
Prior to joining Silverback, Calkins was a Sales and Marketing Vice President at Adaptec, where he was instrumental in that company's OEM, distribution and reseller channels, and developed its reseller-partner programme.
Before Adaptec, he was a regional Vice President at Zenith Data Systems, which during his tenure there reached the billion-dollar annual revenue mark.
Calkins holds a bachelor's degree from Ferris State University.
