SBS Technologies and Surf Communication Solutions have formed a partnership to jointly develop and market AdvancedTCA-, MicroTCA- and AdvancedMC-based convergent media solutions to the communications market. The WAN I/O and DSP AdvancedMC products currently in development will support the standards-based PICMG SFP I-TDM protocol over gigabit Ethernet for transporting voice, video, fax, and modem traffic over high-speed AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA switching backplanes. 'SBS has been providing innovative LAN and WAN voice/data transport and network monitoring solutions to data and telecommunication customers for over ten years and is excited about being first to market with innovative AdvancedMC solutions'.
'Our partnership with Surf is an important step in expanding the opportunities for easily integrating voice and video applications on next-generation AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA platforms', said Rubin Dhillon, Vice President and General Manager of SBS Communications products.
'The union of SBS' AdvancedMC line and Surf's unique triple-play media processing capabilities-wherein all three media types: voice, video and data (fax and modem) can be processed simultaneously on a single DSP-will provide our customers with comprehensive, cost-effective, and easy-to-integrate communication solutions', commented Eyal Zagagi, President and CEO of Surf Communication Solutions.
The combined SBS and Surf solution is a highly scalable, modular building block for convergent AdvancedTCA, MicroTCA, and proprietary communications systems, such as IP-to-IP and TDM (mobile)-to-IP media gateways, media-enhanced telephony servers, session border controllers, CTI applications (eg voice and video mail), conference bridges, wireless basestations, iPBX, and softswitches.
Surf's triple-play media processing solutions run on Texas Instruments (TI) state-of-the-art TMS320C6412 DSPs.
'By combining our open-standard I-TDM-enabled WAN solutions and cost-effective application-specific silicon with Surf's IP-enabled distributed DSP architecture, convergent telecom equipment suppliers can deliver lower cost-per-port application solutions to their customers over existing MPLS/IP backbones', said Dhillon.
