The announcement represents a major milestone for the company. The custom technology fabricated at 1st Silicon's state-of-the-art facility in Malaysia is dedicated to Sharp Corporation, a leading supplier of NOR Flash products. The 0.13um NOR Flash products with density up to 128Mbit are manufactured using aluminium back end process.
According to Dr John Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of 1st Silicon: 'We are very proud to be the first foundry in Malaysia to be in production at the 0.13um node'.
'Sharp Corporation is our initial technology partner and we are delighted to announce this successful third-generation technology transfer'.
Dr Nelson added: 'Through close co-operation and partnership, the companies have developed the ability to rapidly transfer and bring to mass production NOR Flash technology'.
'Based on 1st Silicon's experience in NOR Flash, we will continue to extend our embedded Flash technology portfolio'.
Apart from serving NOR Flash customers, 1st Silicon's business strategy also focuses on servicing the niche markets by offering embedded Flash, image sensor, high voltage and automotive processes.
