Spansion has appointed Louis Parrillo as Executive Vice President of Research and Development, a newly created position at the company

A pioneer in the semiconductor industry, Parrillo has received many prestigious honours for his innovations. He will report directly to the office of the CEO and will be responsible for technology development and strategic alliances. 'Lou is a distinguished semiconductor executive whose inventions have changed the industry landscape', said Bertrand Cambou, President and CEO, Spansion.

'His experience and leadership will be critical as we continue to accelerate technology transitions and develop new leading-edge technologies that will be the basis for value-added Flash memory solutions'.

Parrillo brings to Spansion more than 30 years in the semiconductor industry, having received many prestigious honours for his innovations, including 26 patents.

He is a recipient of the IEEE Frederik Philips Award, the JJ Ebers Award from the IEEE Electron Devices Society, and many other awards recognising him for his innovations and contributions to advancing technology.

While at AT and T Bell Laboratories, he led an advanced CMOS technology development group and co-invented twin tub CMOS technology, which continues to be an industry standard after more than 20 years.

In 1996, Parrillo was elected to the US National Academy of Engineering, which advises the federal government in the matters of science, engineering and technology.

Prior to joining Spansion, Parrillo managed his own consulting firm while also serving on Cypress Semiconductor's Technology Advisory Board since 2004.

He was with Motorola 19 years and held various executive management roles in which he focused on technology research, development and manufacturing.

Throughout his tenure at Motorola, he drove many leading-edge technology projects and their implementation into manufacturing, contributing to increasing revenue for the company.

Before Motorola, he was with AT and T Bell Laboratories.

'Spansion is an innovative technology leader with a commitment to changing the Flash memory landscape with more innovative solutions', said Parrillo.

'I look forward to working with the team to continue advancing its leading MirrorBit technology and other developments'.
