Sequence Design has formally presented its first annual Powerhouse Design Award to Tensilica, recognising the company's contributions to low-power IC design

"Companies such as Tensilica recognise that as much as 80% of an IC's power budget can now be controlled at the RT level, and applying power-aware tools and techniques early speeds the design process and greatly reduces time to market", said Vic Kulkarni, President and CEO of Sequence Design.

"In an era of sub-1V design, Tensilica's efforts to reduce power consumption in the early stages of the design process are exemplary, and we are pleased to recognise their contributions through this award".

The award was presented to Tensilica's Himanshu Sanghavi, Hardware Engineering Manager, who describes low-power dissipation as an important design goal of his company.

Tensilica allows designers to customise microprocessor cores, slashing typical development times.

"Many of our customers are building portable devices so power is naturally a critical dimension for us", Sanghavi said.

"We are estimating power at the RT level using Sequence's PowerTheater, giving us insights into power analysis much earlier and on a larger number of processor configurations than was previously possible".

Sequence will annually honour the design team whose efficient approach to power management serves as a model for every engineer struggling with the same issues.

Nominations for next year's award are open now.
