Splashpower's novel wireless power technology has been used in a concept car developed by Visteon Corp. The car not only uses Splashpower technology, but also combines Bluetooth with Visteon Voice Technology to give drivers a totally wire-free in-car support system for a handheld mobile phone. Typically the size of a mouse mat, a SplashPad can simultaneously recharge a number of mobile devices simply by resting them on the pad.
Splashpower's wireless power technology has been built directly into the centre console of a concept vehicle, demonstrating both the flexibility and true market-making potential of the innovation.
Splashpower Vice President of Business Development, David Whitewood said: "Splashpower is an innovative and intuitive solution for powering up portable electronic devices.
Visteon's application of Splashpower realises the possibility of a safe and totally wirefree, handsfree and power charging system for mobile phones in the car, and just hints at the many and varied opportunities our solution offers to develop a completely new category of mass-market accessories".
Visteon will be demonstrating the in-car wireless power capabilities for mobile phones and PDAs, but the technology could as easily be used to power up everything from flashlights and other battery operated emergency tools, to the wireless games controllers and headsets that will form the core of next generation in-car entertainment systems.
