Ericsson has licensed Spirit's communication software to embed into Coordcom, a complete hardware and software solution that handles effective emergency services, call taking, dispatch, command and control.
The main customer for the Coordcom solution is the Swedish 112 (equal to 999 or 911) operation SOS Alarm, managing all 112 errands in Sweden.
Coordcom has been the main application for SOS Alarm since 1986.
Coordcom is also operated by the Spanish regional 112 operation for Valencia and Murcia.
The Valencia 112 operation serves over 9 million persons during summertime.
People need to be assured that when they call 911, their calls will always go through and that they are understood regardless of any surrounding conditions.
It is extremely important for the operator to clearly understand what is being said so she can quickly provide the required information or medical attention to the caller.
Time is crucial in a crisis and there often is no chance to ask the caller to repeat a statement or to guess words.
Spirit software enhances each call's clarity, makes it easy to understand the caller by eliminating various connection artefacts, background noises and echo effects.
The US Department of Justice states that the US 911 system handles 500,000 calls daily or about 183 million annually.
And as cellphone and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) usage increases, the number of calls to dispatch centres can also be expected to increase.
To handle such a huge volume of incoming calls, the operating software must be much more reliable than conventional telecomms products.
Any delays, connection breaks or misunderstandings are not tolerable in emergency applications.
Again, Spirit software perfectly handles the situation providing toll quality even in case of hundreds of simultaneous calls.
The software package includes the best of class software modules for acoustic echo suppression and cancelling, noise suppression/cancelling, NLP, CNG, AGC, AHC, multichannel audio mixer and all other components necessary for unmatched speech quality delivery.
'Top-notch voice quality and multichannel support provided by Spirit software are being tested in a public safety system delivered by Ericsson', says Ericsson's Karl-Johan Westberg.
'The software ensures voice clarity no matter where the call is coming from, as hearing every word is vital for public safety systems'.
'Providing software for 911 systems is a great responsibility for Spirit', says Andrew Sviridenko, Chairman of Spirit.
'In this particular case excellent voice quality and easy speech intelligibility are not enough'.
'Robustness and the mission-critical capacity to handle thousands of calls from different environments are also a must'.
'We are proud to say that we provided the best speech quality available at the market'
