A new HF data modem provides reliable, fast and cost-effective datacommunications over high-frequency radio links at rates from 75 to 4800bit/s, using standard serial-tone waveforms compliant with MIL-STD-188-110A. Suitable both for tactical and civil applications, it can be used in any area with poor or absent wireline telecomms infrastructure such as maritime, long-haul or tactical digital communications. The modem provides an outstanding level of performance and flexibility for data voice transmission applications.

The design combines digital signal processing and forward-error-code correction technology to combat the anomalies of HF ionospheric propagation.

Powerful equalisation techniques combined with smart tracking systems provide reliable operation on HF channels with high fade rates and large multipath delay spread.

The use of turbo principles allows ultimate performance and very fast tracking.

Spirit's HF modem works well in the presence of large nonlinear distortions, and withstands interference and jams.

"Besides reliability and global coverage, our HF solution is extremely cost-effective.

All you need for successful development of your HF device is TI C5xx chip and Spirit software package integrated in it, which allows you to avoid a lot of accompanying hardware expenses", says Andrew Sviridenko, founding CEO of Spirit.

"By integrating this HF solution directly in your hardware you can make your HF device more cost-effective and reduce your time to market".

Spirit's MIL-STD-188-110A HF modem is available to run on TI C5xx DSP chips and PCs; ports to other RISC/DSP platforms can be provided on request.
