Spirit's proprietary 2400bit/s vocoder is now available for the Compaq iPaq personal digital assistant equipped with Intel's StrongArm processor.
2400bit/s vocoder for iPaq is targeted at application integrators who want to incorporate voice communication capabilities of this device for real-time voice communication over IP networks.
This also provides great value to the end users who will use their handheld organisers as web-phones or digital recorders.
"2400bit/s vocoder can be used in a vast range of application, such as telephony, digital answering machines, Internet multimedia, call-logging systems, and more.
The algorithm is hand-optimised for lowest MIPS and memory consumption, and thoroughly tested for bit-exactness and high robustness to acoustic noises and errors", said Spirit's CEO, Andrew Sviridenko.
The Compaq iPaq is a PDA powered by Intel StrongArm processor and running Windows CE.
The iPaq is fitted with a standard 802.11b modem and enables voice communications with another similarly fitted iPaq.
The iPaq also communicates with a Pentium-based laptop running HelloSoft's G.729A/B vocoder running on Microsoft Windows 98, 2000 or NT operating system.
