Further functions for
client side telephony
Spirit has developed a set of memory-efficient software addons for the Texas Instruments C54CST client side telephony chip, extending the functionality of the device's embedded firmware
The new addon algorithms include 1200bit/s vocoder, G.729AB, G3 fax data pump, G.723.1, and FoIP, all available for licensing in the form of object code for the C54CST chip. The C54CST is a one-chip software plus hardware solution based on Texas Instruments' TMS320C5403 DSP chip. Its ROM contains the most common eXpressDSP-compliant algorithms for client side telephony, originally developed for TI by Spirit.

Thanks to C54CST's modular structure and standardised interface, users can easily obtain further functionality by fitting selected addons to the basic C54CST solution.
The unified interface also makes it easy to build user-specific applications using CST addons.
'The C54CST is the first to offer 14 telephony algorithms from Spirit on a single DSP,' Andrew Sviridenko, CEO of Spirit.
'Because our CST framework is open and flexible, customers can extend this solution by selecting other eXpressDSP-compliant algorithms from Spirit and other members of TI's extensive third party network.
Target applications for C54CST are: telephony systems, point-of-sale outlets and kiosks, set-top boxes, credit card and check verification systems, security systems, industrial monitoring systems and meters, payphones, voice recorders, Internet appliances, voice/data access points and digital answering machines'.
The Spirit addons fit seamlessly on the CST and its framework layers, thus minimising time required for integration of user applications.
CST addons have extremely low memory and MIPS overheads because they are based on CST software blocks already in ROM.
No external memory is required for a wide range of applications, thus minimising the total system cost.
Users can easily build their own applications on top of CST addons, to achieve user-specific functionality.
