DSP-based vocoders use low
MIPS and little memory
Moscow-based DSP specialist Spirit has announced the launch of a series of optimised proprietary vocoder solutions in the form of high-quality speech compression algorithms
Proprietary algorithms for 1200, 2400, 4800, and 5400bit/s vocoders are now available from Spirit as eXpressDSP (XDAIS) compliant objects for the TI C54x DSP platform. 'Spirit's proprietary vocoders can be used in a vast range of application, such as telephony, digital answering machines, Internet multimedia, home appliances, PDAs and call-logging systems.

The Spirit Audio Engine is a complete set of audio processing software, comprising audio and voice codecs, as well as post processing utilities
Low MIPS and memory requirements make them highly attractive in resource-critical applications', said Andrew Sviridenko, CEO of Spirit.
The 1200 and 2400bit/s vocoders are based on the LPC model, but use a mixed multiband excitation (MMBE) model for an excitation signal that the company says ensures correct transmission of speech signals with tone, noise and mixed spectrum components.
The 4800 and 5400bit/s vocoders are proprietary improved code-exited linear prediction (ICELP) algorithms, based on the CELP model and optimised.
