Custom manufacturer Synergetix reckons it has transformed the way test sockets are purchased with the unveiling of SocketBuilder. Socket purchasers have experienced a wait of days, even weeks, for engineering departments to design the precise socket solution to meet their requirements. SocketBuilder accelerates this process to minutes.

The time-saving tool can be accessed via the Synergetix website.

"Imagine, customers will design their own socket on the web", said IDI/Synergetix CEO, Ed Schifman.

"SocketBuilder was being used internally as a tool for our engineers and now we're making it a web interface tool for our customers.

From now on, customers will control their own destiny when it comes to getting their drawings".

Here's how SocketBuilder works.

The user will come into the site, spec out their application, chip, electrical performance criteria, handler type etc.

Based on this input, SocketBuilder will generate an engineering drawing for the required socket.

SocketBuilder will send the user an e-mail with a hyperlink to their drawing.

The user is presented a detailed manufacturing drawing, not just a generic drawing with limited dimensions.

What used to take weeks is now achieved in minutes, unless additional modifications are needed.

SocketBuilder will even recommend the appropriate spring contact probes.

Synergetix uses the spring probe technology of its sister company, IDI, the world's leading developer of spring contact probes.

The customer's socket designs are stored in the customer's personal archive.

The service is password protected.

Each customer will see only his or her socket designs.
