IXI Mobile has signed a product development memorandum of understanding with SMART Modular Technologies to design equipment for deployment of "designed for PMG" Sleek devices.
The PMG is the bridge between the mobile and the personal area networks (PAN), combining cellular and short distance wireless with micro-router and micro-server functionalities.
It is the point of connection between the wireless network and the new category of affordable and best-of-breed mobile devices.
The PMG enables a new set of innovative, optimised Sleek devices (eg watches, pens, phones, messaging terminals, gaming devices, cameras) that deliver a superior wireless experience, while still focused on fashion and budget.
"The joint effort between SMART and IXI Mobile is another important step towards the availability of innovative "designed for PMG" devices.
SMART joins a growing list of companies - including Samsung, Seiko Instruments Inc., Sanyo, Infohand, HIT Incorporated and others - who are working with IXI Mobile and mobile operators to bring the PMG category to market", said Edgar Auslander, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Strategy at IXI Mobile.
"The PMG market is a major development for the mobile industry and offers tremendous opportunities to create progressive products for end-users", said Robert Ragusano, Vice President and General Manager of SMART's Communications Product Division.
"Working with IXI and OEMs, SMART will work on creating modules to help expedite the adoption of the PMG technology into the wireless communications space".
