A PC-based design tool from Silicon Concepts provides a powerful new approach to design, integrate and program power supply management circuits. Released to support Lattice's innovative ispPAC devices for power management, the new PAC-Designer 2.0 tool available from Silicon Concepts controls all functions within the ispPAC-POWR1208 through a Windows-based software development tool. A low cost evaluation kit, PACsystemPOWR1208 is also available from Silicon Concepts to enable designers to build quick prototypes of their circuit implementation and to check its functionality.
Featuring in-system programmable analogue and logic blocks, the Lattice ispPAC-POWR1208 devices offer flexible, cost effective and convenient power supply management for multiple power supply electronic systems.
Through a combination of programmable logic, voltage comparators, references, and high voltage FET drivers, the devices support single-chip programmable power supply sequencing and monitoring.
It offers a robust single chip solution to the support of multiple power supply voltages on a single PCB, while minimizing power consumption.
Within PAC-Designer 2.0 software, an easy-to-use graphical user interface allows the user to set up the device to perform functions such as timed sequences for power supply and monitor trip points for the voltage monitor inputs.
The software tool gives the user control over how the device drives the outputs and the functional configurations for all I/O pins.
User-friendly dialog boxes are provided to set and edit all of the analogue features of the ispPAC-POWR1208.
An extension to the schematic screen is the LogiBuilder design environment that is used to enter and edit control sequences.
Again, user-friendly dialog boxes are provided in this window to help the designer to quickly implement sequences that take advantage of the powerful built-in PLD.
Once the configurations are chosen and the sequence has been described by the utilities, the device is ready to program.
A standard JTAG interface is used to program the E 2 CMOS memory.
PAC-Designer software supports downloading to the device through the PC's parallel port.
The ispPAC-POWR1208 can be reprogrammed using the software and ispDownload cable assembly, to adjust for variations in supply timing, sequencing or scaling of voltage monitor inputs.
Silicon Concepts offers the PACsystemPOWR1208 evaluation kit, including an evaluation board, an ispDownload cable, and PAC-Designer v2.0 software.
