A new development kit, which quickly and efficiently assists designers prototyping PCI based USB devices using NetChip Technology's NET2280, is now available from Silicon Concepts. On connection the NET 2280 RDK (reference design kit) allows any PCI host systems to be specified by a USB host without firmware. USB device side firmware and API's, as well as USB host side drivers and sample applications are provided to ease data transfer and systems management.

NET 2280 RDK is supplied in standard PCI form factor, providing a total design environment, which includes all the components necessary to enable designers to quickly reach the prototype stage.

Features include 3.3 or 5V universal PCI connectors, complete PCI test headers, standard USB B connector, debug serial port and socketed EEPROM.

The NET2280 is a highly integrated peripheral controller.

It features PCI host adapter modes, a PCI initiator and target interface, four scatter gather DMA channels, a high-speed USB 2.0 interface, 12 USB endpoints and an integrated 8051 CPU.

It is ideally suited for USB devices that use the PCIbus as an internal backplane bus or otherwise need to interface to PCI based silicon.

45Mbyte/s sustained transfer rates can be easily achieved.

The NET 2280 runs on 2.5 and 3V supplies, with 5V tolerant I/O.

It is capable of running USB bus and self powered devices.

It comes in a 120-pin TQFP package with a 16 x 16mm footprint.
