Development kit speeds VoIP development
SiTel Semiconductor's VoIP kit allows manufacturers to quickly develop solutions while reducing their bill of materials by up to 30%.
The 450 chipset is specifically targeted at DECT cordless handsets, VoIP desktop phones and analogue telephony adapter markets and is based on a 16bit CR16C+ CompactRISC core architecture with specific 32bit extensions.
SiTel Semiconductor has appointed MPC Data as its preferred uCLinux development partner for the 450 chipset.
uCLinux is a small-footprint low-resource version of the popular Linux kernel for processors without a memory management unit (MMU).
MPC Data performed a ground-up port of uCLinux 2.6.19 to the CR16C+ architecture together with supporting uCLibc library and BusyBox using the new GCC toolchain from National Semiconductor.
SiTel engineers worked closely with MPC Data to integrate their latest SIP stack with the platform.
Mark de Clercq, Product Marketing Manager, SiTel Semiconductor comments: "SiTel set very aggressive timescales for the introduction of its VoIP platform into the market".
"We would not have been able to meet these timescales without the technical expertise and professionalism demonstrated by MPC Data and we are proud to welcome them as a software development partner".
"It has been a great team effort".
According to Phil Buckley, MPC Data's Linux Embedded Business Group Director: "Porting Linux to any 16bit core architecture is always going to be a technical challenge but one which we are very familiar with, this being our third uCLinux port".
"We overcame some significant challenges along the way, particularly with the implementation of Posix threads and runtime symbol relocations".
"We are very pleased with the cache optimisations we achieved to deliver kernel performance comparable to that of currently available standard 32bit RISC processors".
"We pride ourselves on the stability of the BSP and tools we developed to meet the high standards demanded by SiTel".
The uCLinux platform and toolchain for the SiTel SC14450 is available immediately through SiTel Semiconductor bundled with the recently announced Enterprise VoIP Development Kit.
