Sira has a new one-day course on calibration, traceability and good measurement practice

Designed to give a better working knowledge of the requirements of the ISO standards for metrology and good measurement practice, this new course is ideal for assessors of quality systems, assessors of calibration and testing laboratories, quality managers and technical managers, calibration and testing managers and technicians.

Aimed at improving users' understanding of good measurement practice, the new course addresses lack of knowledge in the following areas: what is calibration; specifying calibration requirements/how much calibration is needed; use of equipment for its intended purpose; and what is an acceptable calibration.

This course has been developed to promote awareness of the good measurement practices that are necessary to provide assurances that the chain of measurement traceability is unbroken.

Developed to provide people working in the field of measurement with the necessary knowledge to understand the requirements of new international standards on metrology, the course is ideal for candidates with some familiarity with laboratory measurement procedures.

The basic requirements of three ISO standards/guides are covered during the day, to ensure that good practices are adhered to in making measurements and good practices that must be followed by users of calibration services are highlighted: ISO/IEC17025 "General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories"; ISO/TAG4/WG3 "Guide to the expression of uncertainty of measurement"; and ISO/IEC Guide 43:1996[E] Part 1: "Development and operation of proficiency testing schemes".

This new course provides the perfect entry-level introduction to traceability and measurement, at a cost of GBP 350 per day per candidate.
