SDK has reported a 42.5% increase in operating income for the first nine months (January-September) of 2004, to Y36,216 million, on net sales of Y537,156 million, which increased 4.0% over the same period of last year.
Recurring profit jumped 71.7%, to Y26,672 million, and net income rose 41.0%, to Y11,782 million.
In the electronics sector, operating income jumped 57.9%, to Y10,936 million, on sales of Y81,815 million, up 19.9%.
Sales of hard disks increased substantially due to continued steady shipments and as Trace Storage Technology Corp of Taiwan became SDK's subsidiary in July 2004.
Sales of compound semiconductors, specialty gases for semiconductor processing and rare earth magnetic alloys rose due to higher shipment volumes.
Total assets at 30th September amounted to Y954,409 million, an increase of Y16,585 million from 30th June 2004, due mainly to the fact that Trace became a consolidated subsidiary.
Likewise, Interest-bearing debt increased Y2932 million, to Y525,783 million.
Stockholders' equity at 30th September increased Y7,088 million, to Y182,024 million, due mainly to increases in retained earnings.
