Tiny lightweight M2M wireless modules from Sequoia feature an easy control interface via AT commands, and direct connection to a colour camera. Following a new agreement, Sequoia is able to offer the Telit GM862 series of cellular engines in dual-band GSM-only and GSM/GPRS versions as well as a triband PCS/GPRS version. Features of the GPRS-based terminals include EasyGPRS Embedded, an embedded TCP/IP stack and DNS query protocol.

Control of the modules is via an AT command set, based on standard ITU, GSM and GPRS commands, supplemented by a few appropriate Telit proprietary commands.

With the EasyCamera support, it is very easy to add a still or video camera module to transmit images via the Internet, for security or diagnostic purposes.

The PCS model supports a direct connection to a colour camera, and management via AT commands.

A key feature of the range is pin-compatibility between different versions, allowing developers to re-use the same software worldwide, shipping a different module depending on the target network.

This also ensures that developers can upgrade to future versions, such as the projected Bluetooth and GPS evolutions, with a minimum investment in software development.

With a case size of just 6 x 44 x 44mm, and weigh just 20g including the metal shielding.

Drawing just 26uA when off, rising to less than 3.5mA when idle and 250mA typical in operation, the units are ideal for remote, battery powered applications.

Sequoia is supplying the Telit cellular engines in a rugged metal case, with a D-type 9-pin RS232 power supply, and SMA RF connector to the antenna, and an accessible toggle-spring SIM-card holder.

It is also offering Trizium, a BGA based solution for embedded applications.

An evaluation kit is available, to support application developer, which interfaces to the modules providing a power supply, an external SIM card reader, an RS232 serial port, handset and hands-free connections.
