Seiko Instruments has a PWM buck and boost switching regulator controller that is ideal for portable devices. The S-8460 is a high-efficiency switching regulator controller that requires only one coil instead of two. This allows for a reduction in external components and board space while the high efficiency of the S-8460 will help prolong battery life.
It also includes an automatic-selection control circuit, a reference voltage source, an oscillation circuit and an error amplifier.
Applications for the S-8460 include single-cell lithium-ion devices such as PDAs, cellphones, notebook PCs and power supply modules that require a battery and AC adapter.
Features of the S-8460 include a variable output voltage (2.5 to 6.0V), a wide input voltage range (2.2 to 18.0V), an oscillation frequency of 300kHz and an automatic recovery overload protection circuit.
The S-8460 comes in a 16-pin TSSOP package.
Pricing for the S-8460 begins at $1.75 in quantities of 10,000.
