Available now from SDC Systems, the European distributor of embedded technologies, is the General Software embedded BIOS for the Intel 3100 chipset. The new Embedded BIOS 2000 support module enables designers to build differentiated products around the new chipset. With the server-class memory and I/O controller functions combined in a single component, the Intel 3100 chipset is the first integrated Intel chipset specifically optimised for embedded, communications and storage applications.
The chipset addresses the need for high performance, high reliability, and low power designs within a small form factor when combined with Intel processors.
'For engineers looking to develop powerful embedded systems based on an Intel platform, this is an exciting development', said Stuart Parker, Managing Director of SDC.
'The 3100 has a lot of power and features and our BIOS solution from General Software enables engineers to get a new board design up and running quickly and to easily configure the 3100 according to what they need to achieve'.
'There is a lot of expertise and resources within this solution that we believe will prove to be critical in getting Intel 3100 chipset-based products to market in the shortest possible time'.
General Software's new Intel 3100 support module is provided as an option for Embedded BIOS 2000 and is licensed in source code form.
Developers customise the BIOS to fit the exact needs of the device they are creating.
The support module includes full support for the chipset's key features which include: PCI Express, DDR2 memory devices and enhanced direct memory access (EDMA).
Embedded BIOS 2000 is a leading BIOS SDK for embedded x86 designs, with over 850 OEM-customisable configuration parameters, support for multiple embedded operating systems, and support for major OS and hardware initiatives.
Embedded BIOS 2000 addresses the entire lifecycle of products, from board bring-up, configuration prototyping, testing with system diagnostics, and product manufacturing to in-field diagnostics and software reload.
Features include an integrated debugger; quick boot; console redirection; highly configurable POST; manufacturing mode; ROM, RAM, and Flash file systems; support for a host of industry initiatives; and much more.
Embedded BIOS 2000 supports industry-standard operating systems that run on PC-compatible hardware, including the full spectrum of Windows, Linux and real-time operating systems.
