State of the Art (SOTA) has made a number of enhancements and additions to its line of thin-film chip attenuators. These compact, lightweight devices are ideal for a wide range of applications where excellent frequency response is desired, including in power switches, frequency converters, antennas, power dividers, low-noise amplifiers and passive signal buffers. SOTA now offers case sizes of 0706, 1005, and 1512 with several different termination styles including style AC top-sided metalisation, style CC three-side wrap-around, and style EC bottom metalised wrap-around.

Standard termination styles and material finishes now include a nickel barrier that is pretinned for attachment to circuit boards by soldering.

Additional termination styles for wire bonding, and epoxy mounting are also available.

In addition, SOTA offers both Al2O3 and BeO substrate bodies with a proprietary thin film resistor element for optimum high-frequency performance.

The devices are available with attenuation factors of 1-20dB in 0.5dB increments with a frequency range from DC to 20GHz.

Available tolerances are +/-0.5 and +/-1dB.

Temperature coefficient of attenuation is as low as +/-0.0001dB/dB/C.

Power dissipation ranges from 125 to 500mW.

VSWR is as low as 1.05.

Attenuation stability is typically better than +/-0.5dB over the entire frequency range.

Packaging options include waffle pack and tape and reel.

Reliable operation is ensured by SOTA's experience and rigid quality controls.

The chips are manufactured in the USA at SOTA's ISO9001 manufacturing facility.

Specific applications can be accommodated, including optional high reliability screening or custom testing.

Product data sheets in PDF format are available for download at SOTA's website.

Characterisation in advanced design system (ADS) format is also available to provide engineers with simulation models and evaluation in their applications.

Pricing for the new components is under $1.75 in production quantities.

Delivery is stock to eight weeks ARO.
