Samsung Electronics System LSI Division has licenced the StarCore SC1000 and SC2000 families of processor cores from StarCore LLC. Samsung plans to use StarCore processor technology in a variety of high-volume products, for applications ranging from communications to mobile multimedia. 'We evaluated several competing technologies and the StarCore processors emerged as the most suitable to enable our ambitious communication and multimedia roadmap', said Dr Sung Bae Park, Vice President, System LSI Division, Samsung Electronics.
'StarCore SC2400's efficient handling of control code and its impressive performance in video encoding and decoding were decisive factors in the selection of a processor technology to be deployed in our products'.
'Samsung's stature as an icon in wireless and consumer electronics marks another step toward establishing StarCore as an industry standard in these markets', said Alex Bedarida, General Manager, StarCore.
StarCore's licensable processor cores are designed to efficiently execute both signal processing and control software and offer microcontroller-like code density and binary code compatibility.
The scalability of the StarCore architecture across a broad range of performance levels gives system designers the option of using the same core in multiple applications, making it an excellent choice for low-cost, single-processor designs.
