Lithium cells pack in more power
Saft has increased the nominal capacity of its LS 14500 lithium-thionyl chloride (Li-SOCl2) cylindrical AA-size cells to a market leading 2.45Ah
The life of a primary cell is directly linked to its capacity. So this increase from the LS 14500's previous 2.25Ah capacity offers a useful 9% extra battery life to meet the growing demand for longer lasting batteries. The increased capacity for the LS 14500 cell results from Saft's programme of continuous improvement.

The cell has a nominal voltage of 3.6V, may provide a continuous current of 130mA, with pulses up to 280mA, and can operate over a wide temperature range from -60 to +85C.
An important feature of the LS 14500 is its low self-discharge rate - less than 1 percent after one year of storage at +20C.
The bobbin constructed LS 14500 cell features a stainless steel container and end-caps - for a low magnetic signature - together with hermetic glass to metal sealing and a nonflammable electrolyte.
Saft offers individual LS 14500 cells with a wide variety of standard terminations including tabs, pins and leads and can also supply them in custom-made battery packs to suit specific applications.
The cells are widely used in a variety of professional electronics applications including: utility metering; automatic meter reading; alarms and security devices; tollgate systems; memory backup; tracking systems; and automotive electronics.
