Batteries to military order
Saft has received its first significant production order for BA 5372 batteries for the US military
The award is part of the next generation small MnO2 contract awarded to Saft in 2002. The deliveries will begin in the third quarter of this year and run into 2004. This is Saft's first major delivery order on the BA 5372 MnO2 battery for the Valdese North Carolina site. The Valdese site, which employs over 500 people, is the leading producer of high performance military lithium batteries in the world.

Most of the major military batteries produced to date have been with lithium SO2 (sulphur dioxide) technology.
With this award Saft confirms its capability to deliver high performance batteries using the lithium MnO2 (manganese dioxide) chemistry.
This order also re-affirms US military support of the design, development, and production capabilities of the Saft Valdese site.
The Saft Valdese site was the leading supplier of high performance batteries to the US Military during Desert Storm, during its Enduring Freedom Operation in Afghanistan, and again during the current operation in Iraq.
Saft's employees are exited about the opportunity to continue their leadership in delivering high performance lithium batteries to the US military.
