Saifun Semiconductors is claiming an industry first with the release of the SA25C020 2Mbit SPI EEPROM

The new device provides a combination of small size SO8 package, low power consumption and high performance previously unavailable in the market. Saifun's serial EEPROM products are designed and tested for applications requiring high endurance and low power consumption for a continuously reliable nonvolatile solution.

With the release of the 2Mbit EEPROM at a cost approaching Flash, and in a space saving package, it has been designed to enable new applications such as hard disk drives, optical disc drives including DVDs, set-top boxes, printers and game cards, as well as wireless applications.

The Saifun SA25C020's high-performance features include 25MHz clock speed combined with low power consumption of 1uA typical standby, offered in the industry's smallest size of SO8.

These improved performance levels are made possible by Saifun's proprietary trapped charge nonvolatile memory technology, which enables the building of highly efficient EEPROM components.

'The new component strengthens Saifun Semiconductors' position in the nonvolatile memory market', says Dev Nair, Director of Product Marketing, Saifun Semiconductors.

'Our goal is to meet today's market needs for cost effective high density EEPROM and serial Flash and then in the future develop value added products such as application specific standard products for our chosen target markets', he adds.
