UK WEEE regulations explained
Handy guide provides an easy-to-follow reference source, covering everything from producer responsibilities to affected products and marking obligations.
RS Components has produced a UK WEEE regulations guide, designed to provide customers with an easy-to-follow reference source, covering everything from producer responsibilities, customer responsibilities, affected products and marking obligations to who has an obligation to collect WEEE and how this can be identified.
The guide also explains how RS is working in partnership with the WeeeCare Compliance Scheme, operated by WasteCare, to ensure that RS obligated WEEE is collected and then recycled or disposed of in an environmentally sound way, with the minimum of hassle to its customers.
The WEEE Directive is European legislation, which initially came into force in 2002 (2002/96/EC) and was later amended in 2003 (2003/108/EC).
This legislation was put into place by the European Commission in order to address the environmental concerns that arise from the production and disposal of EEE (electrical and electronic equipment).
The UK regulations implementing the WEEE Directive were passed by Parliament on 12th December 2006 and came into force in the UK on 1st January 2007.
The regulations aim to prevent the production and disposal of WEEE, largely through the introduction of reuse/recycling targets and producer responsibility legislation.
"It is important that we offer the very best solution and guidance for our customers".
"We hope that our partnership with WeeeCare will give confidence that as a producer we have selected the most environmentally friendly method to demonstrate compliance", says Lee Kilminster, RS WEEE Project Manager.
