RS Components UK has beaten strong competition to win the Distributor of the Year Award at the 2004 European Electronics Industry Awards.

RS Components UK has beaten strong competition from Arrow Electronics, Azzurri Technology, EBV Elektronik and Premier Farnell to win the Distributor of the Year Award at the 2004 European Electronics Industry Awards.

The judges awarded the trophy to RS following its strong performance throughout the year.

The judging for the award looked not only at commercial success, but other attributes, such as the distributor's overall approach to the market, its success in identifying demand for new products, and its ability to effectively market and promote specific suppliers and technologies.

The judging panel commented on RS' success in category, and said: "We know they are some of the biggest names in the industry and their approach to the business was impressive".

"The overall winner was particularly impressive because of the way they have adapted their core business to changes e-commerce has made to the electronics supply chain".

On receiving the award, Graham Johnson, RS Components' UK Marketing Manager, said: "RS are very proud to have won the Distributor of the Year award".

"This is an amazing achievement considering the high quality of competition short-listed within this category".

"Thanks go to staff, customers and suppliers for their support".

"Long may we all continue to do great things".

RS' entry highlighted its investment in market channels and how this has helped create demand for suppliers' products, and provided flexibility in meeting customer needs.

Other strengths which helped RS to claim the award included its first class service offering, developed specifically to suit customers' needs, such as free next day delivery as standard, no minimum order, choices in packaging and 99% product availability.

RS was also recognised for its work in supporting the role of engineers, and encouraging new engineers to enter the industry, through its "Heroes at Work" campaign under the theme of "Do Great Things", and its sponsorship of innovative projects, such as the MARS Rocket, Alex Thomson Racing and the Trevor Baylis Foundation.

The award was presented to RS at the 2004 European Electronics Industry Awards, held in Munich on 9th November, in conjunction with Electronica.
