Three new LCD driver ICs from Rohm simplify the implementation and reduce the component count of segment-type LCD displays in applications such as car audio systems, telephones, point of sale systems, multimedia terminals and home appliances. All of the new ICs incorporate on-chip LCD driver voltages to minimize the need for external circuitry. The BU9728AKV 128-output and BU9735K 72-output segment drivers are low power devices designed to operate with a supply voltage of between 2.5 and 5.5V and a duty cycle of 25%.
Operating from a 4.5 to 5.5V supply, the BU9716BKV is a 96-output segment driver with a duty cycle of 33% and a programmable bias of either 0.5 or 0.33.
The BU9728AKV offers 32 segment outputs and four common outputs whereas the BU9735K provides 18 segment outputs and four common outputs.
Rohm's BU9716BK features 32 segment outputs and three common outputs.
All devices incorporate a serial interface for direct connection to a host microcontroller.
Designed for use at temperatures of between -40 and +85C, the new driver ICs operate with maximum power dissipations as low as 400mW.
The BU9716BKV and BU9728AKV are both supplied in a VQFP48 package and the BU9735K is supplied as a QFP32.
