A new low-dropout voltage regulator simplifies the implementation of circuits designed to prevent failing or fluctuating voltage supplies from causing data corruption and system malfunctions

Featuring an integrated reset function and high levels of built in protection, a new low-dropout voltage regulator simplifies the implementation of circuits designed to prevent failing or fluctuating voltage supplies from causing data corruption and system malfunctions. Rohm's BA50BB2RF low-dropout voltage regulator features a PNP power transistor that delivers a stable output voltage (VOUT) of 5.0V and a maximum output current of 250mA.

Output is turned off when the input voltage (VIN) falls below 1.5V and is only turned back on when VIN recovers to 5.0V.

The built-in reset function is set to activate when VOUT falls to 4.2V (typical), and the time between detection and reset can be adjusted by using an external capacitor.

Suited to any application that uses microprocessors, logic circuitry and memory, the new device helps engineers to minimise component count and simplify circuit design by integrating built-in overcurrent protection and thermal shutdown circuitry.

The BA50BB2RF has a low typical dropout voltage of just 0.3V and incorporates a power-off (POFF) function that minimises standby power consumption by providing on/off control of VOUT.

Recommended input voltages are from 1.8V to a maximum of 16.0V.

Rated for operation at temperatures of between -40 and +85C, the new regulator is supplied in a miniature surface mount package with dimensions of just 5.0 x 4.4 x 1.5mm.
