The latest miniature driver ICs from Rohm combine high-voltage drive capabilities with low power consumption and a wide variety of package options

Significantly simplifying the implementation of circuitry requiring the conversion of a serial input data stream to a parallel data output, the latest miniature driver ICs from Rohm combine high-voltage drive capabilities with low power consumption and a wide variety of package options. The new BU209x series of serial-in/parallel-out driver ICs are miniature devices that will help to reduce component count as well as save design time in applications ranging from compact audio systems and car stereos to telephones and office equipment.

The devices will be particularly suitable for microprocessor-based applications where there is the requirement to drive LED bargraphs.

Rohm's BU2090F, BU2090FS, BU2092FV and BU2099FV are 12bit serial-in/parallel-out drivers that offer high DC output drive voltages of up to 25V.

The BU2098F is an 8bit device with an output voltage rating of 18V that features a two-wire serial interface and has been developed specifically for I2CBUS applications.

All of the new drivers offer N-channel open-drain outputs and will operate with supply voltages down to just 2.7V.

Designed to meet the widest variety of application requirements, the BU209x series of drivers is available in 16- and 18-pin DIP, SOP and SSOP package options.

The 18-pin devices feature additional control functionality including output disable and an external latch control terminal.
